Beta Thalassemia with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Case and Review

Beta Thalassemia is a hereditary blood disorder and very common in India. It is characterized by decrease in synthesis of Beta-chain of haemoglobin resulting in variable phenotypes. The association of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) with Beta Thalassemia traithas rarely reported. Moreover, there is data lacking from India. We are reporting a â thalassemic, 8 year old male child who diagnosed for SLE. Pediatricians should alert for this association so the diagnosis and treatment cannot be delayed.
