Corrosion Characterstics of Hydroxyapatite Coated Titanium Substrate for Biomedical Applications
Rb Durairaj and S Ramachandran
In this paper, the discussion has been made on corrosion behavior of the hydroxyapatite coatings over Titanium substrate using electro deposition method. Hydroxyapatite [Ca (NO3)2 + (NH4)2HPO4] has been synthesized at room temperature by the mixture of calcium nitrate and diammonium hydrogen phosphate and deposited over titanium substrates. The corrosion behavior of the coatings has been examined by treating the samples with Simulated Body Fluid solution. It was observed that the coated samples of HAP exhibits excellent corrosion resistance at the rate of 0.296 × 10-3 mm yr-1 when compared to the uncoated samples of titanium with 2.001 × 10-3 mm yr-1. Also the surface roughness of the coatings were evaluated using AFM analysis with an average roughness of 6.67235 nm.
