Influence of vitamins, substrate concentration and shaking speed on biotransformation ofmeloxicamwas studied by employingCunninghamella blakesleeana NCIM687 with an aimto achieve maximumtransformation ofmeloxicamand in search of newmetabolites. Based on HPLC, LC-MS/ MS data and previous reports the metabolites were predicted as 5- hydroxymethylmeloxicam, 5-carboxymeloxicamand a novelmetabolite. The quantification of metabolites was performed using HPLC peak areas. The results obtained indicate that folic acid as vitamin source, 0.01%concentration of meloxicamand 120rpmwere found to be optimumfor maximumtransformation ofmeloxicam. The study suggests the significance of these factors in biotransformation ofmeloxicamusingmicrobial cultures.
